I am fortunate to live near The Recycled Goods Factory - their upcycling and furniture repairs are fantastic! Every now and then they post a picture on facebook showing items which are free to collector! Now, like I said I live very near so when I saw two old chairs looking for a new home I was straight down there!
Rule Number 1 - Take before pictures! Fail! After dismantling the chairs I thought about taking a photo!
So, this is me remembering to take a before picture!!
Rule Number 2 - Practice with the staple gun - not sure what on but I don't advice the seat being the first time you use the gun - you end up getting it wrong, using the hammer and swearing... a lot.
Rule Number 3 - Do not assume it's going to be easy - hmm maybe that should be number 1, but don't give up either, as the first piece I shouldn't expect this to be perfect... that comes later on when I reupholster a stool ;-)
Rule Number 4 - I used spray paint as I thought it would be quicker and give a smoother surface. Fail! I'm no better at using a spray can first time around then I am using a staple gun!
Rule Number 5 - GET THE MATERIAL THE RIGHT WAY ROUND! Maybe this one should also be rule number 1 !! Only after I'd completely hammered stapled the material in place and flicked the seat back over did I realise spidey is upside down!
Rule Number 6 Don't give up! Which is what I wanted to do after I saw the seat!
I finally completed the top section and put all the screws back in my freebie chair and this is the final result - not perfect but not too shabby either.
*Edit*
In all honesty, looking back at this post I think I was a bit hard on myself. Not really that bad for a first reupholstered piece, and if you look through my other projects, you'll see I've learnt a lot from this day.
Enjoy
