Will you miss the random Tweets from Donald Trump? I know I will

Well, the year 2020 has certainly given us many events to talk about from lockdowns to home-schooling to the return of Covid19 which hadn’t died out the first time around.

For me, the most astonishing event this year has been the denial from the 45th American President, Mr Donald Trump, that he lost the 2020 election and will not be spending a second term in office. 

 
The American election vote took place on 3rd November but the results were long in coming and drawn out. This extra amount of time for counting had been put down to the fact that many more Americans had used the postal voting system this year due to the Covid19 pandemic.

The result from the 2020 election was that Joe Biden won against Donald Trump with a victory of 306 electoral college votes to 232. Mr Joe Biden will now become the 46th President of the United States, and this is where the discussion should really wrap up, but it doesn’t.

President Trump is refusing to accept the voting figures. He believes the voting was fixed with many ‘dead men’ voting, votes being changed to Democrats and poll watchers being refused entry, but what amazes me, is the whole world knows how he feels about this as he is a prolific tweeter!

I have found myself logging in to Twitter daily to see what the current President of the United States has to say regarding the election. If this was a movie you would say it was too far-fetched.

I find it fascinating that a man, who many dub as ‘the most powerful man in the world’, has no issues with tweeting what appears to be whatever is on his mind with no editing or censoring – a brain dump if you will.

Twitter itself has censored some of Donald Trump’s tweets for incorrect election statements. Many of his tweets will carry the following warning “This claim about election fraud is disputed”. My favourite to date is when Donald Trump tweeted ‘I won the election’ and Twitter added a disclaimer “Official Sources called this election differently”.

If he wasn’t the President of a very powerful and influential country, it would be laughable, but I do wonder how much of my musings are masking the fact that is could turn into a very unsettling end to 2020, already a year riddled with too much upset, chaos and death.
