This October I decided to try my hand at the Paper Bag shorts that I saw being made on season seven of The Great British Sewing Bee.
I'm not going to lie, I was apprehensive on this make as to whether I would be able to pull that fabulous waistline off. It's not something I had tried before, let alone those fancy hems.
I am forever learning when it comes to sewing. This is my hobby and I love making and have started to look at my older clothes and how I can make them into something new, but my day job is accountancy so my learning takes place in the evening and at weekends.
I mentioned a few years ago that I took up sewing to make my own clothes due to my scoliosis which means my back is not symmetric, and therefore clothing on my left side don't quite hang right, that and my love to wear my fandom prints.
I'm getting more confident on the sewing machine and even my over-locker, so my next challenge in my sewing abilities is to draft my makes into muslin drafts and adjust the sewing patterns according to my shape.
I'm quite excited about the next stages in my sewing journey and hopefully, my clothes will make for a more comfortable fit as I continue to practise. So the shorts that I made were from a pattern with slight adjustments. On the whole, I'm really pleased with the finished garment.
You can follow my sewing journey over on the Minerva website which has become a real hub of makers showing off their talents.
They are amazing, well done, they really suit you!
