A Children's Science Book to Explain the Physics of the Modern World.
This is a great book for any beginner in science. It is a hard-backed, square-shaped brightly covered book which is filled with nuggets of information on the world of electricity and magnetism.
The pages are colourful, with graphics which fill the page with the text around it like a storybook. There is not a lot of text on any one page which helps when reading with your child. The drawings all relate to the text on the page and help with the information.
This is also an activity book, as well as reading and learning, there is also activities through the book such as how to make a homemade battery. We may all need to learn this one, with the current cost of living!
About My First Book of Electromagnetism
In our modern world, electricity and magnetism are all around us and we use them for nearly everything. In fact, it’s hard to find anything that works without them. We use electricity and magnetism to light our houses and our streets, keep our fridges cold, cook food with microwaves, heat the water for our showers, watch TV, play video games, surf the internet on our computers, send messages on our phones, listen to music with earphones... the list is endless.
But what actually is electricity? What has it got to do with magnets? What is magnetism? And most fascinating of all, what has all this got to do with light? All these questions are answered in this guide to the wonderful world of electromagnetism.
My First Book of Electromagnetism is the latest title from the awarding winning author and illustrator duo Sheddad Kaid-Salah Ferrón and Eduard Altarriba and in this new book, they tell the story of humankind’s growing understanding of the forces around us.

From Thales of Miletus’s first experiments with magnetic attraction in 600 BCE to James Clerk Maxwell developing the unified theory of electromagnetism in the nineteenth century, we go on a fascinating journey! At various stages of the book, there are fun experiments, including constructing an electroscope (an instrument used to measure the presence of an electric charge) and a working homemade electric motor.
Packed with detailed illustrations and lively text, this book makes even the biggest ideas easy to understand for budding scientists.
About the creators: Sheddad Kaid-Sala Ferrón is a science and physics enthusiast with degrees in physics and pharmacy. Since graduation he has been teaching science to children, continuing to study physics, working in the pharmaceutical field and staring at the universe with his telescope. He now writes popular science books.
Eduard Altarriba is a graphic designer and illustrator. He runs Alababalà, a Barcelona-based independent studio producing games, exhibitions, animation, apps and workbooks for children that are practical and fun. My First Book of Quantum Physics won the Educational Books category at the British Book Design and Production Awards in 2018.
