Review of Dannells Lampshade Making Kit

Just before the Christmas break, Dannells asked if I would review their Lampshade Making Kit.  

As some of my readers will know, I have a love for crafting especially if it means I can add a Dr Who, Wizard or Dragon theme on it.

So looking at my lampshades, I have a birdcage and Pac-Man, so yes, of course, I need more fandom and quirky lampshades and was keen to try my hand at making my own.

Review

I was surprised by how few items were in the box.  I don't know why, I don't know what I was expecting either but I had everything I needed.  A card panel, a small card "thing" to tuck the fabric around the rings, the two metal rings and double-sided tape.

The first task was deciding on what fabric I wanted to use, that took a while!  I wanted to use up my Alice in Wonderland fabric but the lampshade required nearly a metre of fabric so that option was taken away from me.  The green jellyfish wouldn't go with the colour scheme of my study so I opted for black and white ghosts.

This took no time to create, and I'm so pleased with the finish that I'm now looking at my fabrics and rooms to decide if I need to do this again.

The card template sticks wonderfully to the fabric with no creases or "faff" as you pull away the sticky paper.  What did catch me out was that I didn't cover the entire rings with tape and ended up having the makings of a baggy shade!

The tape needs to go around the entire rings and then rolling the card onto the rings had me debating if I needed to get my leg up on the table to help as I'm not sure how I managed to roll the rings and keep them lined up and taught - but it worked, you just need to trust in the process.

These would make great gifts as well as purchasing for yourself, it's a lovely way to add a little bit of you in your crafts.

You don't need to have a box of fabric to make these either, you can either make a patchwork shade, draw on paper, pick up some pieces from the charity shop or make a collage - the only limitation is your imagination.
